Rooted in Connection: A New Space for Eastern European Immigrants in the Teton Region

At Voices JH, we’re excited to introduce Eastern European Connections Jackson Hole—a new community group created by and for Eastern European immigrants who call the Tetons home.

Launched through our Immigrant Development Programs, this peer-led space is all about building community, honoring heritage, and nurturing belonging. Each month, group members gather to share meals, reflect on their experiences, and support each other through the joys and challenges of building strong, rooted lives in our valley.

And they’re also finding connection on the field—quite literally. The group recently formed a soccer team in Snake River Soccer, where laughter, teamwork, and pride come together in every match.

“This is more than just a gathering—it’s a place where people feel seen, rooted, and at home,” shared Odalis Ávila, Director of Immigrant Development at Voices JH. “When people are supported, they feel connected to where they live—and they give back in powerful ways.”

Eastern European Connections is modeled after our long-standing Latine Professionals Network, which brings Latine leaders together to grow, learn, and lead. These two initiatives reflect something we believe deeply at Voices JH: when immigrants have the space to lead and celebrate who they are, the whole community benefits.

The launch of this new group was made possible in part by a Youth Philanthropy grant from the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. Thanks to this generous support, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside Toma Klus, a dedicated community leader from the Eastern European diaspora who is guiding the group with heart, vision, and deep care.

At its core, Eastern European Connections is about belonging. And belonging isn’t just good for individuals—it’s the foundation of a strong community.

Because when everyone has the tools and relationships they need to thrive, we all flourish together.
